Origins
The big three USA, Britain and USSR divide up the land of Germany into 4 different sections. This is government because it is dealing with the governments distribution of land. -
Truman Doctrine
Turkey and Greece became very close to becoming communist countries. But just in time President Truman gets 400 million dollars from congress and was able to stop Greece and Turkey before becoming communist. This was very Political because this was a huge government decision that would decide so much in the cold war .because this was dealing with very important land. This had a huge effect on the cold war because if these two counties became communist it could have started a domino effect. -
Marshal Plan
This plan was created by George Marshal and the plan was to rebuild Europe from the destruction of World War II. This is Economic because in the Marshal plan many countries used a lot of money to build Europe back up. This would impact the cold war in the future because more Capitalist counties would gain more power. -
Berlin Blockade and Aircraft
The Soviets had made a blockade around East Germany so nobody could get in or out of Germany. The United States wanted to help feed the citizens that were starving so they sent food over to east Berlin by flying over the blockade. This is Geographic because this issue was about the Soviets blocking land for nobody to get in or out. This would effect the cold war because eventually the Berlin wall would fall and everyone would be free. -
Comecom
The USSR response to the Marshall plan and they were trying to stop countries so they wouldn't become capitalist. This was economic because the USSR had to lose a lot of money to try to protect these countries so they wouldn't become communist. This would impact the cold war further because the USSR's plan didn't really work. -
NATO
NATO was an alliance that stood for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It included USA, Canada, Brit, France, and 8 other countries. Their goal was to make sure no other country became communist. This was Social because it effect all the citizens in every country. In schools and other propaganda everyone was told that communism is bad. This would effect the Cold War because it would get USSR to create Warsaw Pact which is just the opposite as NATO -
Space Race
The Space Race was between the US and the USSR to see who can one up each other the most. USSR got a man up into space and President Kennedy said we will get a man to the moon. This was Innovation because both countries upgraded in technology so much. This is would effect the cold war because it made the USSR angry and everyone was fearing that they would launch Nuclear weapons on the US. -
Olimpics
In the 1936s the USSR beat the US 51-50 is basketball. This made everyone in the US feel less than Russia because it was the US's sport. This is Social because everyone around the world heard about this event. This would affect the cold war by creating spike sports rivalry between the US and USSR -
Miracle on Ice
In the Winter Olympics the USA vs USSR in hockey game was a huge deal. The college kids from the USA beat the USSR hockey team 4-3. It was said that nobody could beat the USSR. This is Social because the news blew up all around the world. This would hugely impact the Cold War because it made the USSR hate for the USA grow more than ever. -
Berlin Wall falls
The Berlin Wall separate families and many others from seeing each other. When the Berlin wall fell everybody left the west side and went to the east. I think this is artistic because so many paintings of the wall falling were created and can give a lot of emotion. This would bring less tensions into the Cold War because the USSR had more than enough problems to deal with at this point. -
Religion and the Cold War
Region played in an important factor into the cold war when Frank Coppa said that Christians and communists could be together. This affect the cold war because it made both the USSR and USA hate each other even more because a lot of people believed in the Popes rules. This is religion because it is dealing with Christianity and the Pope. -
Interview
I interviewed my mom because she is above the age of 35 and knows a bit of the cold war. For the highlighted question she answered the cold war was a war with Russia, Images a red flag and a yellow scythe and star. For question 1 she answered Biggest memory of the cold war was the Berlin wall and Ronald Regan talking about it and I saw that as the take down of communism. For question 6 When we were in the cold war I was not concerned about my personal safety while on terrorism it does.
