The six day war
The six day war was fought between Israel and Egypt over a six day period. Israel launched multiple missiles at Egypt which caught them by surprise and nearly the entire Egypt air force was destroyed. Israel launched a ground offensive towards Egypt which caught them by surprise again. After the launch the Egyptian leader ordered a evacuation on the Sinai. The Egyptian leader forced Syria and Jordan to attack on Israel. This relates to the cold war by, not being expected and doing little damage. -
US sends man to the moon
10:56 PM Neil Armstrong took foot on the moon. He was the first human to ever step foot on the moon. John F Kennedy believed that sending a man to the moon and him returning safely would be goal that we could accomplish. Armstrong had to travel 240,000 miles to reach the moon. This has been one of the biggest achievements that only one person has experienced themselves. This event was significant because there has only been one person able to step foot on a difference surface other than earth -
1980 Olympic Hockey game
This hockey game was played against the U.S. and the Soviet Union. The soviets have won 6 previous medals in the Olympics. At the first period the U.S was tied with the Soviets at 2-2. The Soviets led 3-2 during the second part. The US scored two more points winning in he upset of the Cold war. This ties in with the cold war because depending on who won the game, that would be the winner of the war. With the U.S. winning, that meant the Cold war ended with the Americans winning. -
The Berlin Wall goes up
The Berlin wall was put up by the GDR or the German Democratic Republic around August 13,1961. The wall separates West Berlin from East Germany and East Berlin. The reason for the wall to be built was so that Fascists could not enter East Germany. The government opened the wall in November 1989. The wall was built completely with in two years ending in 1992. The wall was named "Anti Fascist Protective wall" stating that NATO countries were equal to fascists. The Berlin wall is significant -
Falling of the Berlin Wall
"Opening the wall" means that the wall was taken down. This meant that the citizens of the GDR were able to freely cross the countries borders.That night people roamed freely past the wall. Others took hammers and picks to chip away at the wall. Still to this day this wall was one of the most powerful events during the Cold war because it meant so much. The containment of the Fascists played a big role because they were not able to cross the country for a period of time while the wall was up. -
Bay of Pigs
The Bay of Pigs was an invasion on Cuba in 1961 by the Cuban exiles. The U.S. Government were supporters of this event. On April 17, 1961 and armed force of about 1,500 of the Cuban exiles landed on Bahia de Cochinos "Bay of Pigs". The U.S. Governments supplied arms for them. The Cuban Army defeated the exiles. This was significant because, it was a invasion on Cuba that the U.S. helped take part in. This war was also one that failed which was not very common.
