    Korean war

    The Korean War was a conflict between the Democratic people of North Korea and the Republic of South Korea in which at least 2.5 million lives were lost. The United States along with other UN countries, fought on the side of South Koreans while China fought on the side of North Koreans.
  • U.S. official enters Vietnam War

    The United State entered Vietnam with the principal purpose of preventing a communist takeover in that region. North Vietnam was communist and wanted to make North Vietnam and South Vietnam one country. The United States entered this war to prevent the spread of communism over South- East Asia.

    The bay of pigs was an invasion financed and directed by the US government. Begins when a CIA-financed and- trained group of Cuban refugees lands in Cuba and attempts to topple the communist government of Fidel Castro and ends in utter failure.
  • Berlin Wall goes up

    Fortified concrete and wired barrier that separated East and West Berlin, Germany. It was built by the government of what was East Germany to keep so-called "fascists" from entering East Germany and undermining the socialist state, but primarily served the objective of stemming mass defections from East to West.

    The Soviets invaded Afghanistan under the pretext of upholding the Soviet-Afghan Friendship treaty. Resulted in failure because The Soviets were forced to withdraw.
