    The Yalta Conference was held in Yalta, Ukraine. The meeting was consist of the US, Britain and the USSR, which were consider the Big Three. The Big Three agreed that after Germany's unconditional surrender, it would be divided into 4 divisions. The West side were capitalist while the East were communist. The USSR, which was led by Joseph Stalin, promised free elections to liberated countries. It had more liberalism as there were promised of free election.

    The Potsdamn Conference was held in Potsdam, Germany. The Big Three worked on a agreemnent of the postwar of Germany. They agreed on disarm and demilitarizing Germany. The surrender of Germany was signed on May 8, 1945. President Roosevelt died and was replaced by Harry Truman and they just finished the Atomic bomb. This was less liberalism because the people realize that there was no free election happening. This event was considered to be the start of the Cold War

    The War happened in Korea, between Japan and America. At the end of WWII Japan occupied Korea. The USSR crossed the 38th parallel, which is the peace line between the US and USSR. The was considered unsuccessful because of the back-and-forth across the 38th parallel. The south became capitalist and had elections, while the North became the communist.

    During WWII, the America dropped 2 of the world's first deployed nuclear bomb. The first bomb was dropped in the city of Hiroshima, Japan. The explosion killed nearly 80,000 japanese civilians; 10,000 more died because of radition exposure. Up until now, there is still a debate if the attack was for to end the war or the US revenge for the Pearl Harbour. For the US point of view, it will be more liberalism because they said, they did it to end the Asia Pasific war.

    3 days after the bombing of Hiroshima, a second bomb was dropped in Nagasaki, killing over 40,000 people. Later on, Japanese emperor Hirohito announced Japan is surrending WWII. Again more liberalism in the US perspective as they said, this will lead to the end of the war.

Stalin created this system in order to provide aid to rebuild the countries in Eastern Europe that were politically and economically aligned to the Soviet Union.     The US secretary George Marshall announced a 13 billion dollar programing, providing aid to all Western Europe following the devastation of WWII. Western Countries were involved. They thought that if Europe became prosperous again, the expansion of the communist would be less likely to happen. The soviets react to this plan and called this "dollar imperalism", saying that they are bribing the Europeans to be on their side.More liberalism, want to lessen the sphere of influence of the communist.

    The Berlin blockade happend in West Berlin, Germany. The blockade was an attempt by Soviet Union to limit the ability of the allies to have acces in road and water to the sectors of Berlind under the Western Control. The allies respond to this by the form of Berlin Airlift. At first it was less liberalism because the Soviets are limiting the supplies of Berlin to survive however when the Allies did the Berlin Airlifts its now more liberalism

    Hungarian Revolution
    It started as a student led demonstration that led to a giant protest against the Soviets in Hungary. Involving the Soviet Armed Forces vs the Armed citizens Demonstrators Pro-Revolution. The Soviets put a brutal end to the revolution, thousands were killed and wounded and fled the country. New government was put in and declared the withdrawal from the Warsaw Pact. The Politburo invaded Hungary, the Soviets won and a new communist party was in.Less liberalism because the communist won.

    Fidel Castro was a government socialist in Cuba. He led a revolution that overthrew the US. The US refused to lend Cuba money or buy their sugar therefore the USSR stepped in to help. it would be less liberalism because Castro aligned with the Soviet Union and allowed the Soviets to place nuclear weapons in Cuba, resulting in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

    The U.S. launched the Bay of Pigs invasion, an unsuccessful attempt to remove Castro from power. The CIA began training Cuban exiles from Florida. 1500 Cuban exiles from Cuba invaded at the Bay of Pigs and they were all killed or taken as prisoners. It has less liberalism because the operation to overthrow Castro was unsuccessful.

In response, Kennedy ordered a naval blockade around Cuba. Kennedy and Khrushchev made a deal that led to the end of the crisis. More liberalism because the attempt to attack the cities were unsuccessful.

    The revolution involves Dubcek and the Soviets. Alex Dubcek came into power in Czechoslovakia and began liberalization. The Soviet Union led Warsaw Pact troops in an invasion of Czechoslovakia, They successfully occupied Czech. Less liberalism because the invasion successfully stopped Alex Dubcek liberalization reforms.

    The US and USSR met in Helsinki, Finland. These agreement went back and forth for 3 years and ended in 1972 when Nixon signed the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty. Limitations of anti-ballistic missiles was agreed. Later on, Ronal Reagan, an anti-communist, was elected. More liberalism because of the this treaty, lessening the missiles.

    Soviet- Afghan War

    The Soviet Afghanistan War was fought between Afghanistan rebels called the Mujahedeen and the Soviet supported Afghanistan government. The US supported the Afghanistan rebels in order to try and overthrow and to prevent the spread of communism. The Soviet was not in a good state because the US and Arabic countries sent weapons. Soviets retreated however, left a well armed Afghan military involving the 9/11 attacked. Less Liberalism because the US took their economy.

    A trade union formed in Poland called solidarity. Under the leadership of Lech Wałęsa to protest working conditions and political repression. The communist government got mad because of this and could not do anything that it led to a negotiation. It was agreed to have an election, Walesa who was a liberal was elected. This event is considered to have contributed greatly to the Fall of Communism. More liberalism because the communist is starting to fall apart.

    The Berlin Wall came down, borders opened, and free elections throwing out Communist regimes everywhere in eastern Europe. The Iron Curtain was lifted and the Cold War came to an end. Reagan (Us) and Mikhal Gorbachev (USSR) became friends. The cold war officially ended in 1991, but the East and West differences softened in the mid 80's. More liberalism because there is no more spread of communism.
