Division of Germany after WWII
At the Potsdam Conference, Germany was divided into four zones. The three western zones were to be occupied by France, the USA, and Britain. The Eastern Zone was occupied by the Soviet Union. This was the birth of the Cold War. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
As a response to the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion, The Soviet Union placed Nuclear Missiles in Cuba, and aimed them directly at the United States. The US responded with a Naval blockade of Cuba, and the situation was diffused when the US agreed never to invade cuba without being provoked, and the USSR dismantled it's nuclear weapons in Cuba. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
The division between East and West Berline was knocked down, signalling the end of Communist rule in East Germany.
