  • Potsdam Conference

    Potsdam Conference
    -The final war meeting of leaders that allied the "Big Three" nations and dealt chiefly with the future of Germany and the role of the Soviet Unionagainst Japan.
    -The british elections were one of the most stunning upsets, the conservatives were ousted.
    -July 26, the United States and British leaders issued a surrender against Japan.
    -The allies reached agreement on 3 D's (democratization, denazification, and demilitarization).

    -In 1965, a series of airstrikes against north Vietnam continued until 1968
    -In 1973, pans peace accord was signed (war did not end until 1975)

    -The purpose was to occupy Afghanistan to make a part of Soviet Union

    -Perestroika is the reconsruction of the political and economic system established by the communist party
    -Glasnost means "openness" and was the name for the social and political reforms to bestow more rights and freedoms upon the soviet people
    -These are policies and were effected from 1985-1991, Boris Yeltsin became Russia's president. He formed the commonwealth of independent states
    -Helped cause the fall of the soviet union and the end of the Cold War.
