    Potsdam was a final wartime meeting of the "Big Three" that ended the war and war alliances. It took place in Belin. They attempted to feel with Japan: there were 2 choices. 1.) Japan would be disarmed and would be allowed to develops democratically or they would destroy they nation if Japan didn't surrender. Least Purssia was divided, the northeast would go to the Soviet Union, and the rest to Soviet Union. This lead to unintended boundaries that lead to the Cold War.

    The Soviet Union and Russia were struggling for power. Germany was divided into 4 zones. The soviet section was its own communist section. It was very akward. Berlin was split and there was conflict. The US. then devised a plan to stop the spread of communism with the Truman Doctine, which publically branded them as "anti" communists.

    Soviet Afghanistan War

    ThevSoviet Union failed in securing Afghanistan from the rebels for such a long period of time.
    The United States provided the Mujahideen with Stinger missiles. These enabled them to shoot down Soviet helicopters and were a major turning point in the war.
    Around 13,000 Soviet troops were killed in the war. Over 1 million Afghanis died from the war. Most of these were civilians, not soldiers.

    Glasnot/Perestroika

    In the 1980's the soviet union had economical problems, and to try and fix it the installed the two policies of "Glasnost" and "Perstrokia". Perstrokia was politically and economically restricting and it lead to civil unrest. Glasnost bestowed more rights onto the Soviets, but it lead to an increase in social protests and panics. Glasnost and Prestroikia led to the fall of the cold war
