The US supported Cuban military landed at the Bay of Pigs to fight and remove communist Cuban leader, Fidel Castro. The Cuban forces under Castro outnumbered the US Democratic military and retained Cuban control. -

Communist East Germany begins building a concrete and barbed wire wall around West Berlin to keep "fascists" from entering East Germany. East Germans had been fleeing communist control going to West Berlin. -

Western nations led by the US urged Russia to take down the Berlin Wall. Democracy won and the Wall fell on November 9, 1989 and weakened the Soviet Union as well.
