Hiroshima and Nagasaki
These are the two japanese cities that the US hit with an atomic bomb. This happened to end World War II and was used to save American lives. We also had a little bit of anger we needed to take out on Japan after their bombing of us at Pearl Harbor.
This was the beginnning of the Nuclear Power era. After these bombs were created, a lot of other countries wanted to develop nuclear weapons as well. This is a bad thing in my opinion, threats were being thrown around and it was quite scary. -
Iron Curtain Speech
Winston Churchill was who gave this speech. This speech basically divided a Communist Soviet Union from the Non-Communist countries in Europe. Both sides in turn, formed alliances.
During the Cold War, this created a kind of turmoil. The Western Eruopean countires and the Soviets were butting heads and not getting along very well at all. It created almost a rivalary. -
Berlin Blockade and Airlift
The Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies' railway, road and canal access to the sectors of Berlin under Allied control. In response, the Western Allies organized the Berlin airlift to carry supplies to the people in West Berlin. The Allies were able to successfully supply all the goods needed to the blocked off West Berlin. The Soviets attempted to stop this as much as possible but it wasn't happening, the allies succeeded completely. -
Korean War
The Korean War was a war fought between North and South Korea. The United States backed South Korea in this confrontation. THe United States succeeded as well, as North Korea's expansion was stopped.
During the cold war this was huge for the expansion to be stopped. North Korea was a communist country looking to spread into South Korea. The US, furthering our containment paln, helped South Korea by stopping this spread and creating a boundary called the 38th parallel. -
Vietnam War
Military conflict during the Cold War Era due to Vietnam's Commuinist acations. We, at this time, were doing all we could to stop the spread of Communism. It ended in virtually a tie.
Was a type of moral thing. It went to show that the US would do all it could to attempt to try and stop the spread of Communism. -
Sputnik
Sputnik was the first sattellite launched into space. This sattelite was launched by the Soviet Union. It was a huge advancement for its time.
Sputnik greatly affected the cold war. It increased the tension between America and the Soviet Union. This was a starter for the American Man on the Moon. It also increased math and science throught the US. -

Cuban Missile Crisis
A standoff between Cuba, Russia, and America. The closest we have been to a nuclear war. Cuba had missiles set up and pointed towards the US ready to fire.
Created a new outlook on nuclear technology, weapons, and warfare. This, in turn, brought out the making of the Hydrogen Bomb. -
Man on the Moon
America, in response to Sputnik, landed a man on the moon. This was a great day for NASA and the American people. This was an extraordinary feat that we accomplished, it is incredible.
This was huge for America as a country during the cold war. This was like a retalliation. It showed that we can do anything the Soviets can, and we can do it better. -
Miracle On Ice
The miracle on ice was an amazong hockey game in 1980. The game was between USA and Russia. Of course this would happen, fresh off of the cold war. This was the ultimate rival game.
With Russia being the hockey super power of the time, America had no chance. Americans overcame this feat and beat the Russian hockey team. This also showed that America could triumph over Russia in anything. -
Rocky IV
Rocky IV was a boxing movie that came out in 1985. This was, obviously, the fourth movie in a series. This was a highly projected movie and is still a great one. People often still watch Rocky IV.
This affected the cold war in the same way that the Mircale on Ice did. It showed that America would triumph over Russia. America was better than Russia and events like these made the American people believe this as well.
