Marshall Plan
The Marshal Plan was an American program created to aid Europe because they wanted to help them rebuild and recreate their government so there wouldn't be another situation like World War 2. -
Creation Of Nato
NATO, which stands for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and it's an intergovernmental military alliance. It's basically a mutural defense that many countries are apart of, it's main goal is to create a patnership of peace. -

After finding out about the United States and Britain nuclear program the Soviets started trying to make their own. It took them a few years, and after employing many scientists, and atomic spies they came up with their first test, which was sucessful. -

The Korean war was between North Korea, who was supported by China and the Soviet Union, and South Korea who was supported by the United States, United Nations, and the United Kingdom. This war happened because of political division, and was eventually divided into two. -
Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact was a mutural defense treaty between 8 communist states, this was the communist version of the NATO. -
Sputnik
The Soviets released this into space, and it was a huge sucess. This made Americans nervous, so they started making their own. This started the Space race. -
The Vietnam War
Lasted 19 years, it ended on April 30th 1975 and North Vietnamese won. This war happened because North Vietnam, which was supported by its communist allies, were attacking anti-communist forces in the region. The United States got involved because they wanted to prevent communist takeover. -
Bay of Pigs
1,400 Cuban exiles also known as the Brigade 2506, which was a counter-revolutionary military trained and supported by the United States, attacked the Democratic Revolutionary Front and tried to over throw them. They failed, and were defeated by Cuban armed forces after three days. -
Berlin Wall built
The Berlin wall was a wall built by the German Democratic Republic because they wanted to cut off West Berlin from East Germany. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
This was a 13 day dispute between Cuba and the Soviet Union. What happened was the Soviet Union wanted to place nuclear missles in Cuba, because they wanted to prevent any future invasions from Cuba. -
Olympic Rivalry
During this olympic game the cold war was going on so there was even more tension then usual, and during the game the United States was winning, until the very end when the refs made a very controversal call which ending up resulting in the Soviets winning. -

Also called the Miracle on ice, because the U.S played against U.S.S.R during the olymics and the Soviets had won pretty much every hockey game in the olymics, so they were all shocked when the U.S won the game, this is concidered one of the top sports moments in the 20th century. -
Invastion Of Grenada
This battle occured because of Cold war politics, they Soviets and Cuba tried taking over Grenada because they had a really unstable governement at the time. -
Fall of Berlin Wall
After many deaths, and failed attempts of citizens trying to get across the wall, and many political movements the East German governement finally announced that all GDR citizens could visit West Germany and West Berlin. Throughout the weeks the governement finally started to take the wall down, but it was completely destroyed in 1990. -
Fall of the Soviet Union
The leader of the Soviet Union resigned and gave all the Soviet Missle launching codes to the new president, who changed the Soviet Union back to Russia. This ended the cold war. -
Rosenberg Spy Case
The U.S government released a series of decoded Soviet cabels, which revealed that there was American spies giving information to the Soviets.
