Lasted from 1950 to 1953. North Korea invated South Korea, UN troops led by the US invated the country. Canada provited 22,000 troops to the UN forces. China and the Soviet Union allied with North Korea. -

Cuban Missile Crisis
Cuba was suspected of holding missile sites as observed by American spy planes. The US wanted Cuba to remove thier missiles or military action would be taken, The Soviets agreed to remove their arms. -
First US combat in Vietnam
The first US combat forces land in South Vietnam. More than 2 million people will perish during the Vietnam War -- mostly civilians. The US withdraws its troops in 1973. Two years later the communist north conquers the southern part of the country. -
White paper
The 1970 White Paper on Canadian Foreign Policy stated new goals for Canadian foreign policy. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) was created and allocations for foreign aid increased from 15 to 20 percent a year up to 1975. -

Berlin Wall
Gobrachev announced that the Soviets would no longer impose its will on the people of Eastern Europe, and communism in Eastern Europe collapses. The Berlin Wall was then torn down.
