Nuclear weapons being made first and by whom was the "most important thing" at this time. The United States and the Soviet Union went at it, constantly trying to find the most efficient ways to out-do the other with weapons. -

The United States and United Kingdom (who were allies of the U.S.) transported all kinds of supplies for the Soviets via airplane. Over 200,000 flights were made in one year! -

North Atlantic Treaty Organization; it formed alliances between over twenty-two countries in the world against their enemies. -
Joseph McCarthy
In the 1950s, Joe McCarthy blamed people for being communist in the United States. He was a senator from Wisconsin. His false accusations were believed by many Americans because they had nothing else to believe in. He developed McCarthyism from all of his fake blame. -
Korean War
This war was between North and South Korea. The war consisted of both sides continuously attacking one another, mostly out of surprise. President Truman involved the United States and we further helped South Korea because we did not want them to be turned to communism. -
Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact was a defense treaty among all of the eight communist countries. This formed their alliance against NATO. -

The Sputnik was the first satellite ever in outer space. It was launched by the soviets in late 1957 before the United States could send anything out to space. -

The Soveits and the United States were in the competition to see who would get to outer space first. The United States got defeated by the Soviets as they sent "Sputnik" to space. The Soviets launched the first artificial satellite ever in the world. -
NASA
NASA was and is responsible for all happenings in space and it was first created after the Space Race between the United States and Soviet Union. -
Vietnam War
The Vietnam war was Vietnam against France. When France decided that they would remove themselves from the war, the United States took over. The reason for the war was because the United States was against communism and we wanted to continue containment. It ended on April 30, 1975. -

The Berlin Wall divided West Berlin from East Berlin. Families were dived and rare visits occured. The wall divided the communist side from the democratic side. -
Cuban Missle Crisis
The United States took their "unknown" missles out of Turkey because we had convinced the Soviets to take their missles out of Cuba. The United States had the missles pointed directly at the Soviets and the Soviets had their missles aimed directly at the United States. -
Vietnam War: Escalation
The escalation of the Vietnam War was the spread of communism. The United States wanted to keep the act of containment up and Vietnam was doing the exact opposite. -
Tet Offensive
It was a military campaign during the Vietnam War on January 30, 1968. It was the Vietnam army against the United States army and our allies. -
Vietnamization
This was President Nixon's plan to take United States troops out of war and gradually let South Vietnam take control. -
Kent State
There were a lot of shootings and deaths on May 4, 1970 because of students expressing their agreement or disagreement with the war going on.
