Truman Doctrine
This doctrin was an international relations policy that stated that the U.S would support Greece and Turkey with econimic and military aid to prevent them from falling under the Soviet sphere. -
Policy of Containment
A United States policy put in place to prevent the spread of communism abroad. This policy was a response to a series of moves by the Soviet Union to spread their communist influence in Eastern Europe, China, Korea, Africa, and Vietnam. -
Marshall Plan
This was an American program that aimed to support, and help rebuild Europe's economy and make it prosporous again. The main goals were to remove trade barriers, modernize industry, and rebuild war-devestated regions. This was a large scale rescue prgram. -
Comecon Warsaw Pact
A mutual defense treaty between eight communist states of Central and Eastern Europe in existence during the cold war. Tis treaty was signed in Warsaw . It was a treaty of friendship, cooperation, and mutual assistance. This was established to improve economic and military cooperation among the Soviet Union and it's allies. -

Cuban Missle Crisis
Soviet Russia had nuclear missiles in Cuba (very close to the U.S.). The Soviets agreed to remove them if we removed ours from Turkey and did not invade Cuba -
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
Basicly granted president Johnson the permission to take "all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of the United States and to prevent further aggression." -
Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan
In late December the Soivet military brought a full-fledge invasion on Afghanistan. The Moscow government clamed that they were sent there by the requist of Afghans own communist government.
