The Truman Doctrine was doctrine passed to say that America will give assistance to any country that is fighting against Communism. -
The Berlin Airlift
The Berlin Airlift was Americas way of getting supplies to the country of Berlin, while the Soviets had the blockade. Also with the Americans flying over the blockade, they were able to show the Berlin citizens and others that they, the Americans, can over power the Soviets; consequently, giving the Americans a boost in "Public Relations." -
Mao Zedong Takes Over China; NATO was created
China was going through a time of division, some of the citizens were going with the belifes of Communism, while others followed the beliefes of freedom. While China was going through this conflict America didnt aid the side of freedom; consequently, giving Communism the upper hand; thus, leading to China becoming Communist. The organization of NATO came along to further help the philosophy of America "Containment"... countryies coming together to prevent the expansion of Communism. -
The Korean War; McCathy Launches Witch-Hunt
North Korea is attacking South Korea. South Korea wants the US to help fight the North and contain communism. The North and the US went to war and unfortunately it turned out to be a draw because neither side was able to win. The border is still the same.
A man by the name of Joseph McCathy was desprate for fame and would do anything to get it. So he was telling people that eveyone was communist and he was tellping people that communism might be in the government and no is safe. -
KGB established and H Bomb Tested
KGB was a military serviice created by the Soviet Union. It was the most effective organization around and it was a very demanding group heavily controlled by the USSR. The H-Bomb was tested in Bikini Atoll. The H-Bomb was really explosive thats why it was tested by the US in an unknown area. -

The Warsaw Pact was craeted by the Soviets to match the US and NATO. The Warsaw Pact was developed by the Soviets to really prove a statement to the US that wont backdown. -

In the cold war the U.S was taking a back seat.The U.S was worried about domestic things and the USSR was launching Spunick. This gave the USSR the upper hand beacuse they where the first to lunch anything and this had the U.S worried because they did not know what else the USSR could do. -

The USS Maddox is attacked by North Vietnamese Navy in the Gulf of Tonkin. The Vietcong and the North attacked the USS Maddox but it later retaliated and defeated them both. -

The president can take any military action he chooses. If he feels that Vietnam needs troops to fight and help , he has the power to send troops and get involved in the war. -

They thought of way to increase their possibility of winning the war, and that way was by attacking and destroing the Ho Chin Trail, because now that they werent able to get their material and supplies to their troops, increased Americas position in the war. -

USSR invades Afghanistan so that the government of communism would not fall. Also the reason that the U.S hotages were taken where because their president was in New York and they did not trust us with their leader. -
