Munich Olympics
The 1972 olympics were the second summer olypics to be held in Germany. On September 5, eight Palestinians from the group Black September broke into the olypmics and killed several people. The olympic games were largely overshawdowed by this massacre. -

Three mile island is a power plant in Harrisburg, PN that blew up. The radiation from the explosion was said to cause cancer and sterilization. Chernobyl is another nuclear disaster. It happened on April 26, 1986 and wiped out the entire city. The nuclear disasters created glasnost which was the opening of the soviet union. -
Iran Hostage Crisis
Jimmy Carter allowed Shah to come to the US for cancer treatment. A group of Iranian students took over the US Embassy in Tehran and took more than 60 americans into hostage because of Carter's decision. -

The men's ice hockey team, also known as the Micracle on Ice, played during the 1980 Winter Olympics. The US beat the soviets who had always won in the past and people say it was a mircale. -

The affair began while trying to free seven american hostages. The US sold weapons to Iran in order to get the hostages back. Ronald Regan admited to knowing about the trade going on between the US and Iran. -
Challenger Explosion
The Space shuttle's name was Challenger. The shuttle exploded 72 seconds into lift off which killed seven crew members. The air force had planned on using this space shuttle for satelite launches before the disaster. Many people viewed the launch live because of a teacher that was on the shuttle and was going to be the first female teacher in space. The shuttle explosion is now used for many discussions on engineering safety. -

Gergorge H. W. Bush was the forty-first president of the US. He promoted the americans with disabilities act of 1990. Bush also helpedin the Clean Air Act, which requires cleaner burning fuels. -

New border laws caused the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The Berlin wall completely separated west Berlin from east Berlin. The walls purpose was to keep emigrants out. The fall allowed Germany to to reunite. -

The Gulf war was code named operation desert storm. The war begin with the US trying to expel Iraq troops from Kuwait.
