    The Outlaw of The Sun Dance
    The sundance is a ceremonial dance that was celebrated by the indigenous people of the united States. This ceremony was often celebrated through the piercing of the body. This ceremony was created to pray for healing as a community. Due to european colonization in the americas both the Canadian and American government had passed laws that suppressed natives and their culture. The Sun Dance was then outlawed by both governments in 1895.
  • Oklahoma Land Rush

    Oklahoma Land Rush
    The Oklahoma Land Rush was the first land rush into the unassigned lands. The area that was opened to settlement included all or part of the present day Canadian, Cleveland, Kingfisher, Logan, and Payne. The land run started at high noon an April 22, 1889. An estimated 50,000 people lined up for their piece of available two million acres.

    Wovoka - Ghost dance outlawed
    The Ghost Dance was a religious movement that had been integrated into man American Indian societies and their belief systems. According to the religious leader Wovoka the Ghost dance was meant to reunite the living with the spirits of the dead and get them to fight on the Indian’s side in battle, bring peace, prosperity, and unity, as well as make the white colonists leave. The Ghost Dance was then declared illegal due to it being an underground religious Indian practice.
  • The Murder of Sitting Bull

    The Murder of Sitting Bull
    Sitting Bull was a famous Sioux chief. In 1883 Sitting Bull was assigned the Standing Rock reservation. In 1890 there was a false accusation placed against Sitting Bull saying that he was the driving force behind the uprising of the ghost dance and the Indians. On December 15th, 1890 Sitting Bull refused to leave quietly. A crowd had gathered and were upset that he would not leave. They threatened the Indian Police. The police had then responded by shooting Sitting Bull killing him.

    Wounded Knee Massacre
    The killing of a larger number of Lakota by the U.S Army on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. A majority of the Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota had finally bowed to the power of the U.S during the late 1870’s.
