    Georgia Sovereignty Law
    This was a law passed by the Georgia state government which said that anybody who lives in land owned by the state of Georgia must abide by and listen to the Georgia government. This law angered the Cherokees who argued that the land actually belonged to them because of the deals they had made with the federal government.

    Treaty of Echota
    On December 29th president Andrew Jackson authorized Reverend John F. Schemerhorn to go sign a peace treaty with the Cherokees. The reverend met with John Ridge, his son, and his nephew and they went to go sign the treaty and the terms were that the Cherokee would recieve 5 million dollars and land in Oklahoma and America got all their land East of the Missisippi.

    Killing of John Ridge and Elias Boudinot
    In 1839 Many new Cherokees meet with the old Cherokees and wanted to to form a union. The old Cherokees, led by John Ridge and his family did not want to form this union unless the new Cherokees agreed to everyone of their terms. This did not happen at first so no union was formed. Then on June 22 John Ridge, his son, and his nephew, Elias Boudinot were all killed. The Murdered was never found and the case was dropped.
