I realized something was wrong...I looked over at the president and he grabbed his throat and moved to the left.. the 3rd shot was the most damaging.. because it hit the president straight in the head. -
The Aftermath
At 1:15 p.m., Dallas Police Officer J.D. Tippit was shot dead near the intersection, .86 mile from Oswalds rooming house. It was witnessed by 13 people, 5 people have identifies Oswald as the shooter and 4 others have identified him through a photograph the next day. -
Declared Dead
1:00 p.m. - 46-year-old John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States, is declared dead, becoming the fourth US president killed in office. -
At the hospital
When we arrived at Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas, I jumped off the Presidential automobile, removed my suit coat and covered the President's head and upper chest with it. I assisted in lifting the President from the rear seat of the automobile onto a wheel type stretcher and accompanied the President and Mrs. Kennedy into the Emergency Room. -
No time to process
Those six seconds changed history…and my life forever. There was no time to mentally process what had happened. -
The Next Day
President Johnson issued his first proclamation declaring November 25 to be the day of national mourning for the dead president. -
Later that Night
At approximately 2:45 a.m.,I was requested by ASAIC Kellerman to come to the morgue to once again view the body. When I arrived the autopsy had been completed and others and I viewed the wounds. I observed a wound a few inches down from the neckline on the back just to the right of the spinal column. I observed another wound on the right back portion of the head. -
Regrets
It’s something I wish had never happened. I wish the event had never happened. I became a subset of history unwillingly so I have to accept it and live with it and do the best I can with it. That’s what happens every year during the time it happened. -
