    1. After Alexander the Great died, his kingdoms were left to be broken apart by his chief generals. The former Achaemenids Empire went to Seleucus, formerly a commander of elite corporations in Alexander’s guard.
    2. The Seleucid Empire was based in what is now Iran, and went all the way to Mesopotamia.
    3. They were successful in agriculture, and were skillful warriors, ready at will to defend themselves from Eastern nomadic peoples.

    2. When he was killed in battle in 530 B.C.E., Cyrus’ son Cambyses took the throne. In 521, Cyrus’ younger kin Darius took the throne until 486.
    3. During the reign of Darius’ son Xerxes, the Persian Wars happened, with the kingdoms of Darius and Xerxes taken over by Alexander of Macedon, also known as Alexander the Great.
