Medicine Lodge Treaty
The Medicine Lodge Treaty was actually three treatys. The first was signed by the Kiowa and the Comanche tribes. The second was signed by the Kiowa-Apache. The third was signed by the Arapaho. It was a treaty that said the United States government failed to treat the Native Americans with honor. -
2nd Treaty of Ft. Laramie
It was an agreement between the United States and the Lakota tribe that said the Lakota had ownership of the Black Hills. This treaty ended Red Cloud's War. -
Battle of Palo Duro Canyon
This was a critical battle of the Red River War. The United States soldiers went into the canyon and scattered the indians. Then they killed around 1,000 Native American horses so the Indians could not retake them. -
Battle of Little Bighorn
This was a battle between the combined tribes of the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne and the Arapaho against the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the United States led by General Custer. This was a big victory for the Native Americans. Around 270 Americans were killed in the fight. -
Relocation of the Nez Perce
This was a battle between the Nez Perce tribe and the United States. The United States followed the Nez Perce tribe over 1,000 mile with many little battles along the way. At the final surrrender Chief Joseph said his famous words "I will fight no more forever." -
Capture of Geronimo
Geronimo was an Apache war leader who constantly led raids on American towns in Arizona and New Mexico. The United States captured him, which then forced the Apache to move back to Arizona. -
Ghost Dance Movement Begins
The Ghost Dance was performed by indians because they believed that doing the dance would make the buffalo return and make the whites leave the west. -
Wounded Knee Massacre
This battle ended the American Indian war. It is estimated that around 300 Lakota Sioux were killed during the battle. Many American troops were awarded the Medal of Honor after this battle.
