    Relocation of the Nez Perce
    The Nez Perce indians were ordered to give up their land and move into a smaller section in Idaho. Their leader was cheif Joseph and he agreed to give up his land in Oregon and move. So some of his tribe had no choice but to flee. But they were eventually captured and forced to surrender to the U.S. army.

    Sand Creek Massacre
    This was between the cheyenne indians and the U.S. troops. The troops said that it was impossible for indians to obey any treaties and that killing them was the only way to have peace. so they opened fired on the indians killing about 150 people. they burned the camp and returned with scalps of the indians.

    Medicline Lodge Treaty
    This treaty was signed by the indian peace commission. There were three treaties signed they were for the kiowa, comanche, apache, arapaho, and the cheyenne indians. This treaty protected the indians from white settlers and intruders. But the indians also had to agree to relocate to the western indian territory.

    2nd Treaty of Ft. Laramie
    The 2nd treaty was saying that the government would agree to close the bozeman trail. But in return the Sioux had to sign this treaty. So the treaty said that the Sioux would agree to live on a reservation along the Missouri river.

    This battle happened in the Texas pan handle. Colonel Ranald McKenzie had cought some indians that were prepareing a winter encampment.He had sent his calvary to attack there camp while some indians fled the others defended there camp. His calvary destroyed their camp. So the Indians had no choice but to move back to their reservation.

    The Lakota Sioux indians raided white settlers who moved into their land. So the U.S. government ordered the Lakota Sioux to return to their reservations. They didnt want to so the U.S. army troops lead by the Lt. colonel George Armstrong Custer led his troops to the little big horn river where the Lakota Sioux were waiting to attack. And this was the battle of little big horn. It was a huge win for the Sioux indians.

    Capture of Geronimo
    Geronimo was a Apache indian who fled the reserevation along with other indians. Him and the other indians who fled wih him led raids on the Arizona-Mexico border. When he was captured he was sent to a Apache internment camp in Florida as a prisinor of war. When he was captured it marked the end of armed resistance in the southwest.

    This was a religious movement that was developed by Wovoka.To other people who werent indians it was known as the ghost dance. This gave hope to alot of the Native Americans who were suffering.
  • Wounded Knee Massacre

    Wounded Knee Massacre
    This was when colonel James Forsythe ordered the Sioux indians to give up their rifles. One of them refused to give up his gun and it accidently went off as a troop was taking it away from him.The U.S. troops killed about 300 Sioux. Many Americans were shocked. So the general ended up removing Forsythe from command.
