The Union Wins because General Lee withdraws to Virginia. This is the single, bloodiest battle of the Civil War. -

Due to the Union victory, Lincoln announces that all slaves in the rebelling states would be free. -

Stonewall Jackson is mistakenly shot by one of his own men at the Battle of Chancellorsville. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The armies fought a 3-day battle in July of 1863, on the third day 13,000 Confederates lead by General Pickett was at Union lines. This was a huge mistake on Lee's part, Lee's troops retreated back to Virginia in defeat. This allowed the Union to get their confidence back. -
Sherman's March to the Sea
General Sherman destroyed Atlanta and then sent troops on a 300 mile destructive march to the sea. The troops tore up railroads, destroyed buildings, and burned crops in an attempt to break the will of the South. The Union engaged in total war. -
The Thirteenth Amendment is Passed
The thirteenth amendment abolished slavery in the United States. -
Lee surrenders
Robert E. Lee surrenders to General Grant, ending the Civil War. -
