Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise was an event leading to the civil war. This event was based on Missouri requesting to become a slave state. Congress made an agreement allowing Missouri to become a slave state, but also made Maine a free state to keep the balance in states.

Compromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850 was the creation of five laws that dealt with the issues of slavery. California entered as a free state upsetting the balance so Utah was created evening the balance. Fugitive slave acts were abolished and other compromises on the slavery dispute formed. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin is Published
This piece of writing was an anti-slavery novel by Beecher Stowe. She sold 300,000 copies in 3 months. She encountered fugitive slaves through the underground railroad.

Kansas Nebraska Act
The Kansas Nebraska Act was passed by the U.S. congress on May 30,1854. It allowed Kansas and Nebraska to chose if they would allow slavery on there border. The Act served to repeal to the Missouri Compromise.

Brooks-Sumner Event
In 1856 US Representative Prestron Brooks attacked Senator Charles Sumner who was an abolitionist. He attacked him with a walking cane because of the speech Sumner gave earlier. Sumner criticized the slave holders in the speech which did not go over well

Dred Scott Decision
The US Supreme Court ruled that slave owners could take their slaves to west territories. Which negated the platform the Republican party had made just two days earlier. This was the seaming answer to should slavery be allowed in the west.

Fort Sumter is fired on
Confederate guns around the harbor opened fire on Fort Sumter. Major Robert Anderson surrendered the fort. The fort was evacuated the next day.
