    Republican Abraham Lincoln is elected and said he was not going to end slavery but did not want it to expand. But that was still not enough to calm the fears of the southern states so many of them seceded from the union.

    The representatives from the states that seceded met up and they made a government and it was called . They had their first president the day after.

    The confederate states attacked the US military at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. No one was killed but it started the civil war and was considered one of the bloodiest. It all happened because Anderson refused to surrender the fort.

    This is one of the deadliest one day battle and Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. This was a victory for the union, there was many new types of technology and tactics used in this battle along with bad decision making.

    It says that all people that are held as slaves in the states shall be free from here on out. This was ordered by Abraham Lincoln and the presidential proclamation. It was also made so that the confederacy couldn't use the salves in the war.

    A 3 day battle the confederates won, both armies were aiming for a road junction and that is when the two collided. It lasted so long because the union kept sending reinforcements in.

    The Gettysburg Address was a speech given by Lincoln and it was about a new national cemetery at Gettysburg. It was to honor the soldiers who sacrificed their life in war.

    Union General William T. Sherman led some 60,000 soldiers on a 285-mile march from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia. did not destroy any of the towns in their path, but they stole food and livestock and burned the houses and barns of people who tried to fight back. They wanted everyone to "feel the hand of war."
