Shermans march to the sea

General william T Sherman led his 60,000 men on a 285 mile march to the sea from Atlanta to Savannah, georgia. The purpose of this was to frighten the civillian population into abandoning the confederate cause. Him and his men captured Atlanta and stole food and livestock from towns along the way.
