  • Siege of Fort Sumter

    The cause of this was that the Fort was on Confederate soil but the Union ruled it, therefore the South told the Union general in it to surrender. He didn't so the Confederates started to shoot at it. Later the Confederates forced the Union soldiers in it to surrender. The effect of this was that it gave the south another fort and also the Fort guarded Charleston Harbor.
  • Battle of Bull Run

    The cause of this Battle was that the Union army wanted to cut off the Confederates supply route but they ran into the Confederates before they got there causing the Battle of Bull Run. The Battle of Bull Run occurred by a stream close to Virginia. The Union lost because after they attacked the Confederates counterattacked and forced the Union to retreat. The effect of this Battle was that it showed that both sides needed training.
  • Battle of Antietnam

    The Battle was caused because Gen. Lee thought that a victory on northern land would lower the northern morale. The Battle of Antietam occurred after a Union soldier found a Battle Plan that a Confederate officer left behind. Gen. Mclellan took his time to fight the Confederates even though​ he had their Battle Plan. He eventually fought the south and pushed them over a bridge. It was a Union victory since they had fewer casualties. After the battle, Mclellan was replaced by Gen. Burnside
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    The cause of Gettysburg was that Gen. Lee wanted to march to Harrisburg and go south to capture D.C. During the night of the first day,​ the Union took the form of a fish hook and waited for confederates to attack them. They then destroyed the Confederates and forced the Confederates to charge them one last time by digging themselves in at Cemetary Hill. The south charged uphill but was destroyed by the north one again. The effect of this Battle was that it basically destroyed the Conf. Army.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    The cause of the Emancipation Proclamation was that Lincoln wanted to ruin southern society and get Britain to side with the Union. The emancipation proclamation read that all slaves in the confederate lands were freed. The effect of this was that the Union soldiers fought for the end of slavery as well as the restoration of the Union. it also caused Britain to side with the Union.
  • General Sherman's March to the Sea

    The cause of this was that Gen. Grant declared "Total War" causing Gen. Sherman to lead the Army of the West to march from Chattanooga to Atlanta, destroying everything he came across. Later he marched further to Savannah remaining in destroy everything mode. The effect of this was that the Southern civilians lived like their army and that the souths supply routes were broken due to Sherman bending the railroad tracks.
  • Lee Surrenders at the Appomattox Courthouse

    The cause of this was that Grant held Lee in a siege in Petersburg for 9 months until Lee withdrew. After Lee withdrew to Appomattox Courthouse he was trapped by grant and forced to surrender. the effect of this was that it ended​ the Civil War
