    Abraham Lincoln is elected the 16th president of the United States over a deeply divided Democratic Party, becoming the first Republican to win the presidency. It's important because not a lot of people like him because he's against slavery.
  • Battle at Fort Sumter

    General P.G.T. Beauregard, in command of the Confederate forces around Charleston Harbor, opened fire on the Union garrison holding Fort Sumter. It was important because it was the start of the Civil War.
  • Lincoln orders blockade of the south

    It's where they blocked off the Atlantic and the Golf coast so trade wouldn't happen. It was an importnat event that led to the surrender of the Confederacy. The blockade worked to restrict both imports and exports from the southern ports.

    This was the first major land battle of the armies in Virginia. The First Battle of Bull Run was a major wake up call to the North. Union Forces were routed by Beuregards forces. It was the first major battle that resulted in large armies facing one another and serious bloodshed.

    It was the most noted and arguably most important naval battle of the American Civil War from the standpoint of the development of navies. It was fought over two days. It was important because it was the most important battle.

    It was signalled the end of Confederates hopes of controlling Western Tenessee and Mississippi. It also saw the death of the Confederate General Sidney Johsnton, some say the best general in south.
  • Seven Day Campaign

    It was a series of six major battles over the seven days from June 25 to July 1, 1862, near Richmond, Virginia during the American Civil War. The battle was to rid the Richmond area of a large union force, threatening from the peninisula near the confluence of the James and York rivers.

    The Second Battle of Bull Run or Second Manassas was fought August 28–30, 1862, as part of the American Civil War. It was important becausse it was a battle fought in the American Civil War.

    It was an order issued to all segments of the Executive branch. Abraham Lincoln signed something to free the slaves. It didn't help free much slaves. The South refused the free the slaves though.
  • Emancipation Procolamation takes effect

    It ended slavery in the rebelling states. It meant that as soon as the Union captured those states, only then would those slaves be free.

    The battle of Chancellorsville was important because it was an attempt by the Union forces to seize the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia but the attempted failed.
  • Siege of Vicksburg

    It was the final major military action in the Vicksburg Campaign of the American Civil War.They were attmepting to capture Vicksburg, and was the culmination of a long land and naval campaign by Union forces to capture a key strategic position during the American Civil War. President Abraham Lincoln recognized the significance of the town.

    It was the battle with the largest number of casualties in the American Civil War and is often described as the war's turning point. Gettysburg was such an important victory for the North first because it was such a significant defeat for the South.

  • Sherman captures Atlanta

    Sherman captures Atlanta
    It was a battle of the Atlanta Campaign fought during the American Civil War on July 22, 1864, just southeast of Atlanta, Georgia. General William T. Sherman finally captured Atlanta. It was important because it was a huge loss to the confederacy.

    The people in the North liked Abraham Lincoln so much they wanted to re elect him to a second term. It's important because some people in the South don't like him because he hates slavery.
  • Sherman begins march to the sea

    The campaign began with Sherman's troops leaving the captured city of Atlanta, Georgia, on November 16 and ended with the capture of the port of Savannah on December 21. Sherman captured Atlanta in early September 1864 after a long summer campaign.
  • Savannah, GA falls to the Union

    Sherman's Union army has captured Savannah, Georgia. They now have created a military barrier that stretches from east to west across the South, hampering the Confederate army's attempts to move men and supplies through the region. Sherman sends word to President Lincoln that this lovely coastal city will be spared.

    It was the Abolition of Slavery and it was passed by congress. It was important because they ended slavery so they couldn't have slaves anymore.
  • Robert E. Lee surrenders

    He surrenders his 28,000 troops to Union General Ulysses S. Grant, effectively ending the American Civil War. Forced to abandon the Confederate capital of Richmond, blocked from joining the surviving Confederate force in North Carolina, and harassed constantly by Union cavalry, Lee had no other option.

    Richmond, VA was the capital of Confederate states during the American Civil War. It's important because Richmond was the capital of Virginia and the Union Army was trying to occupy Richmond.
