This is important because Lincoln was the first Republican to be president. Also he helps win the war. -
Battle at Fort Sumter
This is said to be important becasue this was the very first battle ever fought in the war. The confedrates attacked and declaried war. -
Lincoln orders blockade of the south
This is important because this blockade prevented any goods, supplies, or arms getting into the south. But still the British still tried to get through. -
1st Battle of Bull Run
This is important because this battle was suppose to be an early victory for the war. The Union suprised attacked the Confederates. The Union had the upper hand for a while, but then more Confederates came and over took the Union. The Union was forced to retreat and they lost the battle. -
Monitor vs. Virginia naval battle
This battle was important because the Confederacy was trying to breack the blockade and the Union needed to stop them or other wise they might have won the war. -
Battle of Shiloh
It was important because Shiloh was one of the first battles with such massive loss of life. -
Union Army moves in and occupies Richmond, VA.
This event is important because Richmond, VA was the capital of the Confederate States of America. -
Savannah, GA falls to the Union
(Note:Days not known) During the final stages of Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's March to the Sea, the Union forces overwhelmed a small Confederate force defending the important Fort McAllister near Savannah, Georgia, a major Federal objective. -
7 Days Campaign
This was important because this was a seven day battle, that had six major battles against the Confedrates. It ended with McClellan's army safely next to the James River, losing more the 16,000 men. -
2nd Battle of Bull Run
This is important because this was the deciding battle of the civil war. But the Union lost and everyone was in dispair but this pushed the Union to fight back even harder, and they where detrmined to win. -
Antietam
This battle is important because the confedrates wanted countries like England and France to help the south with the war. -
Emancipation Proclamation issued
The Emancipation Proclamation proclaimed all those enslaved in Confederate territory to be free. -
Emancipation Proclamation takes effect
It was important because the goverment started to realize that this was an advantge. If slaves where free from the south more, they would weaken the Confederacy by getting ride of a major part of it's labor force, which would strengthen the Union. -
Battle at Chancellorsville
The Battle of Chancellorsville was important because it was an attempt by the Union forces to seize the Confederate capital of Richmond,Virginia. -
Battle at Chattanooga
The city was a rail hub that became important for later campaigns in the Deep South, including the capture of Atlanta and Sherman’s March to the Sea. -
Battle of Gettysburg
This battle is important because it was the battle with the most casualties in the war and it is said to be the wars turning point. -
Siege of Vicksburg
The capture of Vicksburg aided in the Union occupation of the Mississippi River, and the splitting of the Confederacy in two. -
Gettysburg Address
The speech was important because it redefined the Civil War. It stated the rebirth of freedom and people's power over the state. -
13th Amendment passed
The 13th Amendment to the US Constitution outlaws slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. -
Sherman captures Atlanta
Ths was important because Sherman was trying to scare Gorgia into leaving the Confederate cause. Also Atlanta was a railroad hub and the industrial center of the Confederacy. -

This is important because Abraham will help us win the war. -

The purpose of this “March to the Sea” was to frighten Georgia’s civilian population into abandoning the Confederate cause. -

This is important because this ends the war! -

This is important because five days later after the assasination, the Confederates surrenderd. -
Ulysses S. Grant takes over the Union Army
