Battle of Fort Sumter

The 1st Battle of Bull Run (Battle of Manassas)

This battle took place in Manassas, Virginia. The Union was led by McDowell and The Confederacy was led by Beauregard. The South won and Richmond was saved.

Battle of Hampton Roads

This battle was part of the Confederate attempt to break the Union blockade, and created a new naval warefare (ironclad warships). The Union was under the command of John Worden. The Confederates were under the command of Franklin Buchanan. Both sides claimed their victory.

Battle of Shiloh (Pittsburg Landing)

This battle took place in Corinth, Tennessee. It ended on April 7, 1862. The Union was headed by Grant and the Confederates were headed by Albert Johnston. The North won and gained control over the Mississippi River.

Battle of Chancellorsville

May 2, 1862

This battle took place in Chancellorsville, Virginia. It ended on December 4, 1862. The Union army was led by Joseph Hooker and the Confederate army was led by Robert E. Lee. The Confederates won and they killed half of the Union army alone in this battle.

The 2nd Battle of Bull Run (Battle of Manassas)

This battle took place inManassas, Virginia. It ended on August 30, 1862. The Union army was headed by Pope and the Confederate amry was headed by Jackson. The Confederates won and they regained most of the control in Virginia.

Battle of Antietam (Battle of Sharpsburg)

This battle took place in Sharpsburg, Maryland. The Union won, McClellan was fired afterwards, and Lee retreated.

Battle of Fredricksburg

Dec 13, 1862

This battle took place in Fredricksburg, Viirginia. The Union army leader was Ambrose Burnside and the Confederate army leader was Robert. E. Lee. The South won and Burnside was fired. This battle stopped Union advance.

Emancipation Proclamation

Jan 1, 1863

The Emancipation Proclamation was an order to abolish slavery in all parts of the Confederacy. It left out all of the boarder states. The Emancipation Proclamation failed in its attempt to abolish slavery, but it changed the character of the war.

Battle of Gettysburg

This battle took place in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It ended on July 3, 1863. The Union arm was led by Geaorge Meade. The Confederate army was led by Robert E. Lee. The Union won and the South would never invade the north again.

Seige of Vicksburg

May 18, 1864

This battle took place in Vicksburg, Mississippi. It ended on July 4, 1864. The Union was under the command of Grant and the Confederacy was under the command of Pemberton. The Union had victory.

Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

Apr 9, 1865

Robert E. Lee Surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant in Virginia after the Union soldiers cut off all supplies sent to the South. This ended the Civil War.

Assassination of Abraham Lincoln

Apr 14, 1865

Lincoln was shot in Ford Theatre by John Wilkes Booth. He died on April 15, 1865 at 7:22 a.m.

Ratification of the 13th Amendment

Dec 6, 1865

The 13th Amendment was the official end to slavery. It was ratified 8 months after the war.
