Major Robert Anderson surrenders Fort Sumter to Confederate forces after two days of bombardment.
this gave the confederate army a base and they won a battle.

Lincoln blocades the south
The south was blocaded from the rest of the country by soldiers and ships to try to weaken the economy of the south and by that the north could make them surrender.

First battle of Bull Run
The union Army is defeated at Bull Run. Confederate General. Thomas J. Jackson earns name of “Stonewall”. President Lincoln realizes that this will be a long war. This battle kicks off the Civil War. -
Monitor vs. Virginia
The Confederate ironclad USS Merrimack battles the Union ironclad USS Virginia in Chesapeake Bay. this changed the water warfare from wooden ships to iron ships forever -
Battle of shiloh
April 6th- April 9th 1862
Grant and his crew were surprized in the town of shiloh tennessee and over 23,000 casualties slowing down both army forces and causing the army to need to bring in more -
7 Days Campaign
June 25- july 1, 1862
Lee’s forces attacked the Union at Mechanicsville. The union won but McClellan ordered a retreat to Gains’ Mill. Confederate forced broke union lines the next day. Lee's sucess prolonged the war. -

July 1-3 1863 the tide turns and the confederates are defeated. It began as a skirmish but by its end involved 160,000 Americans whitch set back both sides of the war and crushed the sperits of both sides -
Siege of Vicksburg
Grant takes the town of Vicksberg thus controlling the river thus ncutting the confederacy in two making it hard to set a full atack on a city or have all of the confederate army meet to gather stratagee -
Gettysburg adress
Presadent lincoln gave the speech at the national cemetary at the battlefield of gettysberg and said that this is a new birth of american freedom and all people wil be treated the same this gave the union and slaves hope and determination -
