On March 4th, 1861 Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United States. -

First major battle of the Civil War. Confederates won. About 30 miles south of Washington, D.C. -
Monitor vs Virginian
This was one of the first naval battles. Neither side won the fight. The Confederacy had a wooden ship that was taking out several Union ships. The Unions built a ship to fight them back. -
Battle of Shiloh
Grant recently won some battles in Tenesse. Then, he and his army moved towards Mississippi. They were greeted by some Confederates, and Grant was taken by surprise. When he thought he was losing, more Union troops had arrived and helped him win the battle. -
7 Days Campaign
For 7 days the Union and Confederacy fought. In the end the Confederacy drove out the Union. The Confederacy won back territory they recently lost to the Union. -
Battle of Antietam
The Confederates tried to cross Potomac River into Maryland and were caught in a bloody battle with the Union. -
Emancipation Issued
The Emancipation Proclomation is issued. This will free many slaves in the future, making the Union one step closer to victory and taking the Confederacy one step back. -
Second Battle of Bull Run
The Union was defeated at Bull Run Creek while trying to reach Richmond. -
Emancipation Proclamation Takes Effect
Freed slaves in 10 states, freed over 50,000 slaves right away. In the long run, it freed over 3.1 million slaves. -
Battle at Chancellorsville
The Confederacy, fighting the Union, at Chancellorsville, was outnumbered 1 to 2. General Thomas Jackson was killed in action. -
Battle Of Gettysburg
The Confederacy invaded Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. They were met by a Union army, and the two fought for 3 days. The Confederacy expected to win and boost their morale and recognition, when that failed they retreated. -
Siege of Vicksburg
The siege of Vicksburg was when the Union faught the Confederacy, and nearly split the Confederacy in half. The Union won and took ahold of Vicksburg. -
Gattysburg Address
Lincoln delievers, gives, the Gettysburg Address speech. He gave it to try to end the Civil War, and make sure the country stays together. That the war needs to end so they can continue their lives. -
Battle at Chattanooga
Confederacy tried cutting off the supplies at Chattanooga. The Union reinforced it and fought the Confederacy, resulting in a win for them. -

Abraham Gets Re-Elected
On thie glorious day, Novemeber 8th, 1864, Abraham Lincoln gets re-elected. Taking his second term in office, he hopes to contiue and strive to be a great and glorious leader. -
Savannah Falls to the Union
The Union, led by Sherman, goes and fights the Confederacy in Savannah, Georgia. The Union wins and takes over Savannah. -
Sherman Begins March to the Sea
They left Atlanta, Georgia and went to the port pf Savannah. They captured Savannah, it took fairly a month. -
13th Amendment Passed
13th Amendment states you cannot own another human. You cannot make them work, slaves are no longer allowed, except as a legal punishment for a crime. This destroys the South, they have been fighting for slavery and no longer have that to fight for. They are destroyed, it gives the Union a big boost. -
Union Army moves in and occupies Richmond, VA.
The Union army moves in Confederate territory and takes over Richmond, Virginia. -
Robert E. Lee Surrenders
Robert E. Lee, leading the Confederates, surredenders to the North. -
Abraham Lincoln Assassinated
On this day in history Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Booth in Ford's Theatre.
