The Compromise of 1850 was basically a piece of paper stating that California was admitted as a free state, Slave rade was abolished,It supported Popular Soveriegnty,and issued a Fugitive Slave Law. Falied to hold the Union together. -
Fugitive Slave Act
This act allowed to recapture runaway slaves. Southerners felt that the Act was justified becasue the slaves were property. Northerners resented the Act. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book that Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote to inform people of the injustices of slavery the reason to abolish it. Also led to two perceptions, North:Slavery is horrible, cruel and is unacceptable, South: Yankee Abolitionist Propaganda. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This law was passed to attempt to solve the problem of slavery in the Western territories. Also, gave them the pwoer to vote if they wanted slavery or not. Led to "Bleeding Kansas" -
Bleeding Kansas
A small scale war in Kansas, that became rallying cries for the anti-slavery Northerners and the new political party.
