Election of Lincoln
Lincoln led the Union to victory in the Civil War and ended slavery in America. In response to the election victory, seven southern states secceded from the union. -
TX Secedes from Union
Texas becomes the seventh state to secede from the Union when a state convention votes 166 to 8 in favor of the measure. Texas seceded when Houston refused to pledge allegeince to Confederacy. -
Houston knocked out of office
Sam Houston was elected governor and his main purpose as governor was to keep Texas from seceding from the Union and he failed and Texas seceded. Houston refused to pledge allegiance to The Confederate States of America, then was kicked out of office> -
Battle at Fort Sumter
On April 12th General P.G.T. Beauregard demanded the union to surrender there garrison. Confederacy opened fire on the Union garrison holding Fort Sumter. At 2:30pm on April 13th Robert Anderson, garrison commander, surrendered the fort and was evacuated the next day. -
Battle of Galveston
In 1862 Union Commodore William B. Renshaw sailed into Galveston harbor and demanded the surrender of the island city by its occupants. About the same time in late 1862, General John B. Magruder was named Confederate commander of the District of Texas. Upon arriving in Houston, Magruder immediately began making plans to recapture Galveston. Confederate Victory! -
Battle of Gettysburg
On July 1, early Union success faltered as Confederates pushed back against the Iron Brigade and exploited a weak Federal line at Barlow’s Knoll. On July 3rd after a fisrt round of bombardment, Gen, Lee attacked the Union center on Cemetery Ridge. July 3rd, fighting raged at Culp’s Hill with the Union regaining its lost ground. -
Battle of Sabine Pass
About 6:00 am in the morning a Union flotilla of four gunboats and seven troop transports steamed into Sabine Pass and up the Sabine River with the intention of reducing Fort Griffin and landing troops to begin occupying Texas. The gunboats approached Fort Griffin, they came under accurate fire from six cannons. The union formed a blockade in the mouth of Sabine river after seeing the battle ships heading toward them. The confederated won this battle. -
Red River Campaign
This campaign was from March 10th to May 22nd. The campaign was held on the red river in Louisianna. The Campaign purpose was to defeat the Confederate states and then take all of the land. The Red River Campaign failed and ended up losing! -
End of Civil War
Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith, commander of Confederate forces west of the Mississippi, signs the surrender terms offered by Union negotiators. Later, Confederate President Jefferson Davis was captured. -
Battle of Palmito Ranch
This battle led to the uplifting of the Union blockade. This Battle was won by the Confederate States. This was the last and final battle of The Civil War. Troops of Union were taken in as prisoner and few deaths. -
Juneteenth
Juneteenth is the largest celebration of salvery! Juneteenth is the holiday celebrating the ending of slavery. Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19th. -
