Abe Lincoln one the popular vote with forty percent. He claimed he would only prevent slavery from expanding more, not fully end it. But the sates that would later become the Confederacy didn't believe him and seceded. -

First battle of the war, not a major one though. Only one death, a confederate horse. The battle was a bombardment on fort Sumter by the confederate army in efforts to get the Union to surrender the area. April 12-14 -

Is considered the most important battle of the war. Also the one with the most casualties- 46,286. Battle fought July 1-3. Union victory. -

A speech given by Lincoln. Also one of the most well known speeches in American history. -
The Fall of Atlanta
Union victory. Summer campaign to seize the supply center of Georgia. Mostly by gaining influence on the important railroads in which supply came in. Under William T. Sherman. -
Confederacy Surrenders
Battle of Appomattix Courthouse was one of the last battles of the war before the Confederacy surrendered. It was the final battle of General Lee's army before he surrendered. -
Assassination of Lincoln
While attending a play at Ford's Theatre, Lincoln was shot in the head by John Wilkes Booth. Booth himself was an actor. Apparently it was noticed by Rathbone that Booth had entered the box but he did not react until after Lincoln had been shot.
