Underground Railroad
Many African Americans tried to offer shelter to escape from the under ground railroads. The underground railroad gave some slaves their freedom. Some slaves tried to hide in the underground railroad hiding places, so that when the others leave they can escape from being a slave.

Invention of the Cotton Gin

The compromise of 1850 issued slavery in the north and passed 5 laws in September. The fugitive slave act and the slave trade in Washington D.C were abolished. California was a free state and a government was created in Utah.

The 'Bleeding Kansas'
The bleeding Kansas was resulting to be a free state in Kansas and Missouri. A small civil war was fought between pro-slavery and anti-slavery in the new territory of Kansas. It earned its nickname by rampant lawlessness and bloodshed territory.

this act was pass on may 30, 1854. Slavery was allowed in the north by the congress. Settlers from the pro-slavery and anti-slavery lead the violence.

Brook-Sumner Event
Charles Sumner gave a speech about "the crime against Kansas" to the senate. When Charles got injured it kept him away from the senate for several years. Brooke had to pay a fine of $300 for assault.

John Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry
john lead a group of federal army in Harper Ferry, Virginia to destroy the institution of slavery. John Brown was executed for treason and murder and was found guilty on November 2. John Browns son was killed in the fighting.

Fort Sumter, South Carolina, lasted four years, it nearly killed or wounded 500,000 men out of a population of 9 million (including 3 million slaves) and $5 billion in treasure.

Fort Sumner is Fired Upon
For several month the fort have treason between the Union and Confederacy. 87 people surrendered including Robert Anderson the fort on April 13. After the civil war ended Fort Sumner was restored by the military during three wars the Spanish-American War, World War I and World War II.
