    Brown v. Board of Education
    The court case that allowed seperate but equal facilities was Plessy v Ferguson.
    Linda Brown, an African-American girl, was denied the right to attend an elementary school close to her home in Topeka, Kansas. School officials assigned her to a school for nonwhite students far away from her home. Her parents filed a lawsuit and demanded her to be assigned nearby. This event started the Brown v Board case because people relized it violated the 14th admendment.

    Rosa Parks arrested for refusing to give up her bus seat.
    Rosa Parks, an African-American woman sat down on a public bus after work one day. A white man asked her to give her seat up and she refused. The bus driver called the police and Rosa was arrested for not giving up her seat.
    The result was a boycot in Motgommery, Alabama, which lasted 381 days. Also, because of Rosa the Supreme Court passed a law in 1956 to end discrimination on public transportation.

    Eisenhower passed the Civil Rights Act of 1957.
    The law "established the Civil Rights Section of the Justice Department and empowered federal prosecutors to obtain court injunctions against interference with the right to vote.   • Events at Little Rock, Arkansas.

    Events at Little Rock, Arkansas.
    African-American kids were invited to a public high school. Upon their arrival a white mob formed. Thsi was a lot of racial discriminance. Eisenhower had to order federal troops to enforce school desegregation in Little Rock, Arkansas.
    The government protechted the African American students by ordering federal troops to protech them against the National Guard of Arkansas and racial discrimance.
  • Attack of the Freedom Riders

    Attack of the Freedom Riders
    Freedom riders protested the segregation between whites and blacks on buses. For example, to draw attention to their cause, the opposite race would use the other race's designated things, such as, bathrooms or drinking fountains.
    Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), are organizations that helped Freedom Riders.
    Whites and Blacks joined the Freedom Riders.
  • James Meredith enrolls at Ole Miss

    James Meredith enrolls at Ole Miss
    When Meredith tried to enroll at Ole Miss he was accepted, but declined once they figured out his race.
    The government got involed once riots were taking place. Kennedy sent military police, troops from the Mississippi National Guard and officials from the U.S. Border Patrol to control the riots.

    Medgar Evers Assassinated
    Medgar Evers was a civil rights activist. For example, he organized economic boycotts against companies who were for discriminaton.

    Evers was assassinated in his driveway. He was shot in the back at his home in Mississippi.

    The March on Washington's purpose was to show people African American's struggles economically and socially.
    The famous speech that was delivered when everyone met in Washington was the "I Have A Dream" speech by Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
    The law stated there would be no discrimation in public places or enployment discrimination.
  • March to Selma

    March to Selma
    The march to Selma was organized because they wanted to be able to register blacks to vote in the south.
    During the march they were met with violent authorities, including, state and local authorities.
    The result was a lot of awareness raised for the black voters in the south. Later that year they signed a Voters Rights Act.

    Thurgood Marshall first black  Supreme Court of Justice
    Before Marshall was the Supreme Court of Justice he was an arcitech and executor of the legal strategy.
    I think Marshall becoming the first African-American Supreme Court of Justice was a monumental event because Marshall was one of the first blacks in a high government position. This meant he had power, so in a way black had power too. Just like whites did.
  • The Assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

    The Assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
    Dr King was asked to attend a march in Memphis, Tennessee. There he also gave a speech. The next morning, Dr King was standing on his balcony at his hotel. A sniper shot him and he was rushed to the hospital.
    His death had such an impact on African-Americans and whites. He was basically their leader to end segregation. When he was assassinated everyone felt so grateful for what he did for them but not yet completely satisfied that full desegregation hadn't happened. He wasn't finished.
