  • Missouri Compromise

    The Missouri compromise was an agreement where Henry Clay proposed that Maine, in the Northeast, united to the country and became a free state so that Missouri could also enter the Union but as a slave state, and keep balanceThe compromise also established a line below Missouri where slavery was permitted under the line and was forbidden over the line. This event was a cause of the civil war because it clearly divided the country.

  • Tarriffs of Abominations 1828

    A tarriff placed in low priced European goods, whos puerpose was to make this exports more expensive and protect the north industry and economy. This caused the civil war becaused it angered the Southern States because they sold there goods to Europe who where going to place taxes as a result of this in there exports. It also caused more division between north and South.
  • Nat Turners Rebellion

    A slave rrebellion which took place in the state of Virginia. This bloody rebelion resulted in the death of 65 men, and the executio of Turner, and other slaves. This angered the southern slave holders and slave supporters who taught this has unberable and something must be done.
  • Texas Annexation 1845

    When the territory of Texas officialy became part of the United States. This was a cause of the Civil War because it caused debate between North and South because the North did not want Texas to enter the US because it would do it as a slave state and give the South more power and representation in congress.
  • Mexican American War 1846 1848

    It created the Texas Annexation, because after getting in conflict with the US and losing Mexico had to give up a big piece of their Territory ( Texas). This fighting was caused because Mexico did not accept Texas becoming indepent and fought back for their territory but lost. This caused the civil war because as explained previously it gave more power to the southern states in congress over the issue of slavery

California was admitted as a free state. 2. The slave trade was abolished in Washington D.C. and in District of Columbia. 3. The territory of New Mexico was organized under popular sovereignty. 4. The Fugitive Slave Act was passed .
  • Uncles Tom Cabin

    This was a book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe which had as a caused to show the cruel and hard reality of slavery and support anti abolitionist causes. It angered slave supporters and owners who called this book a fraud and the author a criminal
  • Bleeding Kansas 1854 -1861

    Bloody Kansas or the Border War was a series of violent political confrontations between pro slavery and anti slavery groups, in the state of Kansas. This event was a cause of the civil war because it angered the South and the North leading them to serious confrontations and disputes regarding slavery. This was the first physical confrontation in the US over the issue of slavery
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    The main thing this act did was create two new states Nebraska and Kansas.This opened new lands for settlement and had the effect of nullifying the Missouri Compromise. Now, people would have the right to vote if the state became a free or a slave state. This was a cause of the civil war because it angered the North since those states would become slaveholders.
  • Dred Scott vs Stanford

    This was a federal court case which resulted in the decision that slaves were not American Citizens, and were property. So it did not matter if they lived in a free slave they were still property of some one and had no rights.This event was a cause of the civil war and it angered the North because they wanted equal rights for every person and this act was a clear discrimination to slaves.
  • Lincon Douglas Debate

    This were a series of seven debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas who were the candidates for the presidency of the Republican and the Democratic Party.The main topic argued in the debates was slavery. This angered both the North and the South since Abraham Lincoln supported abolitionists and Douglas was a pro slavery candidate.
  • John Brown’s Raid on Harpers Ferry

    An attempt by the anti slave abolitionist John Brown to start an armed slave revolt by destroying a United State’s arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. This angered the South because slaves were being used in uprisings against the goverment and the South. As a result of this slavery terms became even more harsh and cruel.
  • Lincons Election

    In the year of 1860 Lincon became the first republican president in the history of the US. He did this by beating his oponent Stephen A. Douglas with 40 percent of the votes.Lincoln was an anti-slave and had the purpose of defending slave’s rights. This was the tip of the glass, which led to the civil war
  • Birth of Republican Party

    The Republican Party was founded by anti-slavery abolitionists with the purpose of opposing the Democratic Party and abolishing slavery.This party created alot of controversy because it made Southerns angry because the purpose of this party was to protect salves and uses ablotinist ideas against them. This was a cause of the Civil War because it made the North more politicaly strong having their own political party and made Southerns more angry.
