Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise tried to solve the conflict between the North and South. Anything above the 36 60th parallel was a free state and anything below was a slave state however, this compromise eventually became unconstitutional. -

California entered Union as a free state but this made the south upset. Popular sovereignty decided if Utah and New mexico could allow or ban slavery however, a stronger law was created, Fugitive Slave Law, which means that runaway slaves had to be returned. -
Publication Of Uncle Tom's Cabin
This was a book created by Harriet Beecher Stowe and depicted slavery as moral evil. This became a very popular novel and spread abolitionism across the North. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This act was passed in 1854 and created by Stephen Douglas. Congress allowed slavery to spread into an area where slavery was already outlawed, this caused many Northerner's to become upset so they created a new Republican party known as the "free-soilers". -
Bleeding Kansas
The Kansas-Nebraska act included illegal votes coming from Kansas which concluded them into getting slavery. This created a war between Kansas and Missouri which is known as "Bleeding Kansas". -
Dred Scott Decision
The Dred Scott vs Sanford was about a slave, Dred Scott, who sued for his freedom after being recaptured by his owner after he was already in a free state. Congress went with Sanford because they said Scott could not even sue because he is not a citizen. -
John Brown's Raid at Harpers Ferry
John Brown was abolitionist who led a raid at Harpers ferry. The point of the raid was to free the captured slaves however, this was unsuccessful and lead to John getting a death sentence. -
Abraham Lincoln Elected President
The election of 1860 was the last straw for the South. Lincoln was a Free Soiler and he won the election without a single southerners vote. They assumed slavery would be abolished so they seceded from the USA. -
South Carolina Secedes
South Carolina was the first southern state to secede from the nation. In 1861, ore states started to secede creating the Civil War. -
Fort Sumter
Fort Sumter was where the first battle of the Civil War began. This is located in Charleston, South Carolina. -
Formation Of The Confederate State Of America
Once most of the southern states seceded from the nation, they created the Confederate States Of America where they could follow their own rules and still allow slavery. -
Antietam
This battle was known as the bloodiest day of the Civil war because of the 40,000 Confederate casualties and more than 12,000 for the Union. -
Gettysburg
The significance of this battle had the largest number of casualties and became known as the turning point of the war. -
Vicksburg
The Seige of Vicksburg gave the Union control of the Mississippi river which split the Confederacy into two. -
Appomattox Courthouse
This signaled the end of the Nation's Civil war.
