    The main purpose of Fort Sumter was to guard Charleston Harbor. The situation around Fort Sumter was increasingly intense. This was also where the first shots were made and the war began.

    The Union had more soldiers than the confederates but the confederates had a plan to win this major war. In the processes, 387 were killed and 1982 casualties in the confederates army. The Union army had 460 killed and 2896 casualties.

    Sherman led 100,000 men to Atlanta while the Confederates only had 51,000. He captured Savannah and wrote Lincoln a letter saying he captured Savannah as a gift for Christmas.
