    Underground RailRoad
    The Underground Railroad is a system that abolitionists used to help to escape slaves to freedom. Many of the people that have helped during the Underground Railroad were free African which worked as guides/"conductors". In the 1840s and 1850s, they were able to help 30,000 people escape slavery to freedom. One person that was a very important part of the history of the Underground Railroad would be Harriet Tubman she was an anti-slavery activist she has helped about 300 people go to freedom.
  • Tensions Between the South and North

    The North had an economy of the manufacturing industry and the South had an agricultural economy. The South depended on slaves to do most of the work for their economy to make the crops. The North disagreed with the idea of slavery, but the South knew that slavery/slaves is the property and all men own property in the constitution. This argument led to the South and North disagreements on slavery and the rights of state government.

    Abraham Lincoln's Election was on November 6, 1860, and Abraham Lincoln was a Republican candidate and Lincoln had spoken out against slavery and the evils of slavery. Lincoln winning the election had made the Democratic party split apart over the slavery issue. The South had felt attacked because it had been as if they had no voice in politics.

    After President Abraham Lincoln won the election that made the Southern States felt attacked so some of them decided to secede from the Union. These states include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Texas. These seven states had created the "Confederate States of America".

    The Battle of Fort Sumter is the breaking point of the Civil War starting. The Battle of Fort Sumter happened in Charlestown, South Carolina had happened when the Confederate attacked the Union and the Union surrendered that were in the fort.

    The Battle of Bull Run was the first major battle that happened in the Civil War. The Battle took place in Manassas, Virginia. General Irvin McDowell had tried to lead his troops to flank the Confederates by crossing the Bull Run but failed. Which led to a Confederate victory and the federal forces had to flee to the Washington D.C defenses.

    The Battle of Shiloh lasted 2 days and ended in a Union Victory against the Confederate troops. The battle was at Pittsburg Landing, Tennesse. During the battle, there were about 23,000 wounded and killed.

    The Battle of Antietam was a bloody battle and it included that had 6,000 killed and 17,000 wounded all in one day. The Battle had ended in a draw between the Union and the Confederacy.

    The Battle of Fredericksburg was another bloody battle that ended in a Confederate victory. The Union had about 12,500 casualties while the Confederates had 6,000 men lost. This battle featured the first opposed crossing of a river in American history. It also boosted the Confederate's confidence in victory.

    Emancipation Proclamation
    President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. This document emancipated all the slaves in the Confederate states, but the Confederate states refused to put it into action. Since the Union and Confederacy were at War this was symbolic to all the black Americans in the south. This proclamation was only applied to the slaves in the southern states, but not the border states that had slaves.

    President Lincoln tried to convince Congress to pass a law to allow black men to serve in the Union Army. Once they had passed the law about 200,000 black men had volunteered to fight. Many of these men had escaped from slavery in the South. Even though these black men had fought for the Union they were treated unfairly with less pay and couldn't become officers. The black men that had fought had gotten a Medal of Honor which was the Union army's highest award for bravery.

    The Battle of Chancellorsville was a win for the Confederacy. Two significant parts of this battle were the death of General Stonewall Jackson death due to the Confederate war effort. The second part is that the victory of General Lee made his move north into Maryland and invade Pennsylvania.

    The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the war, especially for the Union. The Battle of Gettysburg was one o the bloodiest battles with about 46,000 casualties and 8,000 deaths. The battle lasted about 3 days to end.

    The Siege of Vicksburg of 1863 had lasted about 3 months and the victory had ended in the Union. After, a siege that gave the Union control over the Mississippi River.

    After an important victory in Atlanta, it boosted Lincoln's popularity and it helped Lincoln win the re-election. It was an important event that happened during the Civil War for many reasons.
  • General Lee has surrendered to General Grant at the Appomattox Court House

    General Lee has surrendered to General Grant at the Appomattox Court House
    General Grant had sent a letter on April, 7 to General Lee to ask him to surrender. With the South basically destroyed Lee had asked to meet Grant at the Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia. They were both there for a surrender document prepared by Grant. The terms of the surrender had allowed the Confederate soldiers to keep three things horses, small arms, and personal possessions. Also, allowed the Confederate soldiers to go home without being pursued by the Union army.

    Abraham Lincoln was assassinated after 5 days of the war ended on April 14, 1865. Lincoln was attending a play at the Ford Theater in Washington D.C. The murderer of Abraham was an actor named John Wilkes Booth. John had thought that killing Lincoln would help save the Confederacy somehow. After, Lincoln had died the task of healing the nation's wounds fell upon Vice President Andrew Jackson.

    The 13th Amendment was the abolishment of slavery or involuntary servitude. The 13th Amendment was passed by Congress on January 13, 1865, and ratified on December 6, 1865.

    The Ten Percent Plan was proposed to Southerners for them to be allowed to rejoin the Union when 10 percent of voters in any state took an oath they could be excepted back into the Union and they would have to ban slavery too. Wade-Davis Bill Under this Bill most of the state would have to take a pledge before the state could rejoin the Union. Both of these plans are similar since in both of them they wanted slavery ban throughout the nation.

    It was created by many Southerners that opposed the reconstruction which created the secret and violent group. This group's targets were African Americans, Republicans, and public officials. The Klan had spread throughout the South, but the federal government tried to stop them and passed some laws that made the Klan's actions illegal. Still, the Klan's activities had continued and they were still violent.

    The Civil Rights Act of 1866 it had guaranteed African Americans the same rights as white men. Jackson had tried to veto this, but Congress overrode the veto. This act also created the fourteenth amendment.

    The Fourteenth Amendment is made to help protect the rights of African Americans from being vetoed or taken down.
  • Fifteenth Amendment

    Fifteenth Amendment
    The Fifteenth Amendment was that it had guaranteed African American men the right to vote and it came into effect in 1870. Many African Men had went into positions of power due to this Amendment happening.
