The Start of The War
After the South seceded from the union, because of the election of Lincoln. They attacked the union held Fort Sumter. The capture of this fort led to the start of the Civil War. -
First Battle of Bull Run
The Union had planned to take over the South's capital which was, Richmond, on the way to capture the South's capital the Union crashed into the Confederate soldiers near Manassas, VA. The fight breaks out right next to a little creek called Bull Run. The Confederates one this battle. -
Battle of Antietam
The next battle was when the Union forces went on the attack at Antietam Creek. THe fight lasts all day and no one gained ground by nightfall. The General of the Conderates was forced to withdraw into Virgin. Lincoln had told the Union general to go follow the Confederates general. -
Emancipation Proclamation
Abraham Lincoln passed this so he could free all the slaves from the South. -
Battle at Gettysburg
Confederate troops were sent to go get supplies. But on there way the ran into Union troops and got into a battle, both sides had called for reinforcements. The battle lasted for 3 days on rocky hills and fields around Gettysburg. The Union had won this battle. -
Defeat of Vicksburg
The day after Gettysburg, the Union had received word that Ulysses S. Grant had defeated the confederates at Vicksburg.. Vicksburg was the last stronghold for the Confederates on the river. This lead to the Union getting the Mississippi River. -

New York City Draft riots
The people of New York CIty were furious that the COngress had passed this new law that every one was put into a draft to go into war (not the women or girls, just young men and adult men). These riots were very violent. -
Formation of the 54th Mass.
This was when all African Americans were allowed to fight in the war, with the Union. -
Gettysburg Address
Abraham Lincoln gave a speech to honor the deaths of the troops that fought during the Gettysburg battles. He was telling the troops and everyone else to not give up even though we had lost many. It was to give the dead ones honor and to prove them that they didn't die for nothing. -
Sherman's March to the Sea.
This is when Sherman did a total attack on everything that the South loved. So, rail lines, crops, burned and looted towns. -
Creation of Freedman's Bureau
The Freedman's Bureau was created to help newly freed slaves into creating a new life for themselves. -
13th Admendment
Lincoln passed the 13th Amendment to stop all slavery and to end the war. -
Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse.
This is when General Lee and General Grant met at a the house of Wilmer McLean and the had a discussion about what terms Lee would get so he could surrender. -
Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth, while at a theater. He was sitting with a military officer, his wife, and the military officer's fiance. -
14th Amendment
The 14th amendment stated that all people born in the U.S were citizens and had the same rights as others. All citizens are granted protection by the law. And if states held blacks from voting they would lose representatives in Congress. -
15th Amendment
The 15th amendment responses to the southern barriers and citizens can't be stopped from voting regardless of race and color..
