Texas seedes from the union
On this day in 1861, Texas becomes the seventh state to secede from the Union when a state convention votes 166 to 8 in favor of the measure.The Texan who voted to leave the Union did so over the objection of their governor, Sam Houston. A staunch Unionist, Houston's election in 1859 as governor seemed to indicate that Texas did not share the rising secessionist sentiments of the other Southern states. -
Sam Houston kicked out of office
Huston studyed law which led him to politics he moved to Texas and Serred at the present, governor, he fought against seceding from the Union , but failed and was kiked out of office because he refused to pledge allegiance to the confederate stats of America. He passed away 2 years later. -
Battle of fort Sumter

Battle of Galveston
The Confederates entered Galveston on New Year night, January 1 1863, and opened fire before dawn. Cook failed to seize the wharf because of the short ladders provided for his men. Naval guns helped drive back the assault. Then the Confederate "cottonclads" struck from the rear of the Union squadron. Battle Of Gettysberg
About 6:00 am on the morning of September 8, 1863, a Union flotilla of four gunboats and seven troop transports steamed into Sabine Pass and up the Sabine River with the intention of reducing Fort Griffin and landing troops to begin occupying Texas. As the gunboats approached Fort Griffin, they came under accurate fire from six cannons. The Confederate gunners at Fort Griffin had been sent there as a punishment. -

Red river campaign
The Red River Campaign was composed of many battles between March 10 and March 22, 1864. It took place on the Red River in Louisiana. The purpose of the Union being there was to defeat the Confederate states and then take all of the land. They ended up losing and could not accomplish that. -

Battle of Palmito Ranch
On May 12-13 the Battle of Palmito Ranch was fought and won by the confederates in south Texas. This was the last major clash of arms in the Civil War, occurring even though the war was technically over. But the Confederate troops attacked, again forcing the Union troops to evacuate for good, but this time with a good number of casualties. -
