    Lincoln had ordered an invasion of Virginia in the summer of 1861. the plan was to take the rebel capital of Richmond. The confederates are successful in this battle. The union was over their head about winning. The north is shocked and Lincoln is forced to take the south serious and that they are not a rebellion.

    The bloodiest Single day of War. Union forces went on attack at Antietam Creek. Fight all day, no one gained ground by nightfall. Lee was forced to draw into Virginia. 22,717 dead wounded or missing after this war.
