The Fugitive Slave Act was passed as part of the Compromise of 1850. Caused many abolitionists to increase their efforts against slavery. This had much affect on the Underground Railroad. -

Uncle Tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's Cabin is an anti-slavery novel by American author Harriet Beecher Stowe. This book showed how northerns felt about how the slaves were treated. Abraham Lincoln also met with her and said "So this little lady who started this great war". -
Gadsen Purchase
This purchase included parts of Arizona and parts of New Mexico. Treaty was signed by James Gadsen, the american ambassdor of Meixco. This costed about $10 million dollars. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
The Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed allowing the Kansas and Nebraska territories to decide if they wanted to be free or slave. They did this by popular sovereignty. Stephen Douglas did this so he didn't have to make the decision by himself. -
Damging Property
200 people were killed in Kansas. Over $2 million dollars were damaged in property's. Many voters that were pro-slavery actually voted fraudlently. -
Pottawatomie Massacre
John Brown and a bunch of abolitionist kill five settlers. This event took place because of the Kansas-Nebraska Act. These settlers were all pro-slevery settlers. -
Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott Decision was decided in the supreme court. This would impact the Civil War because this decision was about slavery. -
Freeport Doctrine
This was the second of the Lincoln-Douglas debates which was held in freeport Illionois. Douglas was trying to push for Popular Soveriegnity for the Kansas Nebraska Act. Douglas would win this debate but loss in the presidential election. -
Harper's Ferry
A abolitionist group lead by John Brown including 5 black members out of 17 guys went out to raid a arensal. This arensal is located in Harper's Ferry, Virginia. They would finally be captured by Robert E. Lee army and killed. -
Jefferson Davis
Jefferson Davis became the President of the Confederate states. There was seven states the conceded from the U.S. This would start the Civil War. -
Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was U.S's 16th republican president from Illionis. Had delivered many speeches about slavery and how he wouldn't abolish slavery. He did intend to become friends with the slaves and not be enimies no longer. -
Battle of Fort Sumter
Fort Sumter was the first battle that occured in the Civil War. The confederate army would concede away from the Union. Confederacy army would win. -
First Battle of Bull Run
This battle was fought in Virginia near Manassas. Over 800 people were killed in this battle.The Confederate Army would win this battle. -
2nd Battle of Bull Run
2nd Battle of Bull Run was located in the same spot as the first battle of bull run. Many people died in this battle. -
The Seven Days Battle
North's army tried capturing the Confederates capital. Robert E. Lee pushed them all the way back home. This was made of six major battles.
