This meant that if the rebels didn't end the fighting and join back with the Union by January 1, then all slaves would be freed in all the rebellious states. This was significant because the proclamation confirmed the Union must become a war for freedom and made the Union strengthen politically and militarily.

It was significant because the Union had gotten full control of the Mississippi river which they shut down the confederates trade and transportation.

    This event was one of the greatest political speeches given by Abraham Lincoln. It talked about Americans critical challenges. It payed contribute to all the men who had lost their life in those challenges and talked about how "All men are created equal" was referred back to slavery. Slavery was one of the main causes of the Civil War. It was significant because it talked about so many meaningful and important things.

    The final major battle of the campaign was at the Cold Harbor where Grant bet that Lee's army was tired and had order a big assault against strong defensive positions which resulted in many casualties for the Union. This was significant because it was a strategic success for the North.

    The purpose of this event was to scare Georgias civilian population into leaving the confederate cause. Soldiers didn't even destroy anything they took all food and livestock and burned houses and barns of people who were trying to fight back. This was significant because it led to 60,000 Union troops destroying everything in Georgia.

Lee's and the army of Northern Virginia.
