Battle of Fort Sumter
The attack on Fort Sumter started the Civil War. The confederate States ordered the Federal Goverment to abandon all Goverment owned property in the South. They did just that, but left Fort Sumter to themselves. The U.S sent an artillery unit to defend the fort incase of an attack. The Confederates started to fire apon the fort, but the Union started to fire back. The Union were eventually out gunned and were forced to surrender.This battle had no casualties. -

The First Battle of Bull Run
This was the first major land battle of the Civil War. It happend because the Union was trying to capture Richmond, VA, the capitol of the confederacy. It resulted in a Confederate win.

The Battle of Shiloh was fought in Tennesse. It resulted in a Union victory. The Confederate army was winning until the Union army brought re enforcments. The turnaround was also caused by the confederate general dying.

The Battle of Antietam was the first major battle on Union soil. This was a win for the Union forces. It drived the Confederates back to Virginia. The battle was set in Maryland.

This was one of the most importiant events in the civil war. Lincon was safe to make a proclamation after The Battle of Antietam. He said that all slaves in the Confederate states were forever free. -

The Battle of Gettysburg was the turning point in the Civil War. It was fought in Pennsylvania. This battle pushed the Confederacy back to the Southern States.

The Atlanta Campaign
General William Sherman marched through the state of Geogia burning down everything in his path. He burned down Atlanta and Savannah. Many Southerners lost their homes. This also shut down railroads in Georgia. -
Fall of the Confederate Army
The Confederates were at it's weakest. The railroads in the South were cut off. That put the dagger in their heart because they could not transport any weapons or food to their soldiers. Many of Robert. E. Lee's soldiers ran away. -
Seige of Richmond
Also known as the seige of Petersburg, this is when the Union bombarded Richmond. Finally in April Robert Lee Retreated. He left the city abandon. It took one more month to tear the capitol to shreads. This marked the end of the Civil War. -
Lincon's Assassination
When the Civil War was coming to a close, Lincon took some time away from the war. On April 14, 1865 Lincon was shot while watching a play in Washington D.C. He was shot by well known actor John Wilkes Booth. Many people said that this would bring the Confederate right back into the war.
