First Battle of Bull Run

First major battle in the war the Union was winning at first but the Confederacy counter-attacked and won.

Battle of Shiloh

Apr 6, 1862

The battle of Shiloh lasted 2 days. The south had 55,000 men and attacked an unsuspecting Grant. Grant had about 44,000 men. The south won.

Battle of Antietam

Sep 17, 1862

It was the bloodiest day of the civil war. It was fought in Washington country, North was wining at the beginning but the south counter attacks and wins.

Battle of Chancellorsville

May 1, 1863

The Union Army under Gen. Hooker is decisively defeated by Lee's much smaller forces at the Battle of Chancellorsville in Virginia as a result of Lee's tactics. Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson is mortally wounded by his own soldier, and later dies.

Battle of Gettysburg

The tide of war turns against the South as the Confederates are defeated at the Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania.
