  • Election of Abraham Lincoln

    Lincoln was elected for his first term in 1860 this caused the Southern States to leave the Union.
  • Secession of South Carolina

    On December 20, 1860, South Carolinians in Charleston voted to secede from the Union. It was the first to sucede. President James Buchanan declared the secession illegal but did not do anything to stop it
  • Formation of the Confederate States

    It was a government set up between 1861 - 1865 by the southern states of United States of America. It was made up of secessions of multiple states in the south, which lead to what we now call the civil war.
  • Firing on Fort Sumter

    Gen. Beauregard, who was the confederate general of Charleston, South Carolina. He demanded a surrender of the Union general Garrison of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor. Garrison refused and the Confederates brokeout in fire. In result Major Anderson surrendered Fort Sumter and the Confederates won.

    When an army of 30,000 unexperienced Union soldiers with General Irvin McDowell attacked the Confederate troops commanded by General P.G.T. Beauregard. The Confederates drove the Union army to retreat.

    When Lee and his Confedrate troops surrendered to General Grant in a small village in Virgina called Aooimattox Court House. Grant allowed the Confedrate soldiers to go home freely, as long as they laid down their arms or in other words guns and other weapons.
