Abraham Lincoln elected president
It was the event that drove the South to start the war. -
Battle at Fort Sumter
The Fort surrendered giving the Confederates a place for space for ammo and guns. -
Lincoln Orders of Blockade of the South
The Confederate States of America tried to block off the passages too prevent them from getting food, goods, and supplies. They used ships called blockade runners they were newly built and high speed. -
Manassas
This was the first main big land battle. It was important because whoever captured Fort Sumpter had a major advantage. -
Monitor vs. Virginia naval battle
The Confederates bombed all of the Union ships. This is important because they lost all of there boats and naval ships so they can't attack from the water. -
Battle of Shiloh
40,000 Confederate soldiers under the command Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston poured out of the nearby woods and struck a line of Union soldiers occupying ground near Pittsburg Landing on the Tennesse River. -
Battle at Chattanooga
There was a minor artillery bombardment. -
7 Days Campaign
There were 6 battles over 7 days were many acres of land were saved by each side. It is important because whoever secured land could get more food, ammo, guns, and have more land to battle on. -
2nd Battle of Manssas
This is almost like a best two out of three short war. There were 3 battles in 3 days. The Confederates got the W in this one with the least amount of people killed and wouned. -
Antietam
First major battle to take place on Union soil. -
Emancipation Proclamation Issued
This stated that all enslaved people shall be free. This is important because it probably changed the war by the Union have more people fighting for them. -
Emancipation Proclamation takes effect
This end slavery in the rebellious states. This is important becasue it could change the numbers of the Union army. -
Battle at Chancellorsville
The Confederates won this battle. This is important because they had more deaths then the Union. -
Battle of Gettysburg
If the confederates beat the Union this would have changed some of the border states. This is important because the Union could have lost one of the most important battles. -
Siege of Vicksburg
This the Confederates surrendered the war. This was important becasue it cut off the communication with them to the Trans-Mississippi Department. -
Gettysburg Address
States that the Nation should have freedom. -
Ulysess S Grant takes over the Union Army
Lincoln appoints Grant commander to end the search of a good commander. This is important because Lincoln didn't have to be president and command the army. -
13th Amendment passed
This stated that 10 slaves were free of slavery. -
Sherman captures Atlanta
Union forces beat the Confederates. The Union tried seize railroads and waterways for good to get to them. -
Abraham Lincoln re-elected
The election occured during the Civil War and all the Union states favorated the choice because they knew he would support them. -
Sherman begins march to the sea
The Union army started to travel towards the sea from captured Atlanta, GA. Shermans forces destroyed military targets as well as industry, infastucture, and civilan population. -
Savannah, GA falls to the Union
Shermans Union army captures Savannah, GA and has military strecting from East to West across the United States. The Confederates try to send members to the region but fail. -
Union occupies Richmond VA
It gave the Union more strength during the War. -
Robert E. Lee surrenders
Lee and his starving army surrender arond 4 a.m. this ended the war. -
Abraham Lincoln shot and killed
This really important for the Confedrates so the Union doesn't have as much hate for the South as the war continues.
