Election of Abraham Lincoln
This was a major turning point for the US and slavery. His main goal was to abolish slavery. -
Battle at Fort Sumter
This battle only lasted a few days. The Confederates took over Fort Sumter. -
Lincoln Orders a Blockade of the South
It was supposed to prevent smuggling and the export of cotton from the south. It prevented the south from stealing supplies from the north, but it wasn't as successful as it was supposed to be. There were many holes in the blockade. -
1st Battle of Bull Run
This was the first major land battle of the Civil War. The south was able to break the north's flank and win the battle. It gave the south the confidence they needed to proceed in the war. -
Monitor vs. Virginia Naval Battle

Battle of Shiloh
This only lasted 2 days. The first day of the battle the Confederates lost their leader General Johnston. The next day the Union launched a counter attack on the Confederates. -
7 Days Campaign
It consisted of multiple different battles over 7 days. The north won but both sides suffered many casualties. -
2nd Battle of Bull Run
The Confederates lured the Union into the 2nd battle at Bull Run. Both sides sufferd heavy casualties. -
Antietam

Emancipation Proclamation Issued

Emancipation Proclamatioin Takes Effect
This was when he officially signed it. It officially ended slavery in the southern states. -
Battle of Chancellorsville
It was considered the general Lee's greatest victory, but it was also a great loss because they lost Stonewall Jackson who played a great strategic role in the war. -
Battle of Gettysburg
This battle only lasted 3 days. This was thought to be the costliest battle of the war but not the largest. The north won the battle. -
Seige of Vicksburg
The Union won and gained control of the Mississippi. Grant's success leaded to his appointement as General-in-Chief. -
Gettysburg Address

Battle of Chattanooga
The Union won. It gave them the ability to move further south. It was one of the major turning points in the Civil War. -
Ulysses Grant Takes Over the Union Army
Abraham Lincoln signed a document officialy making Ulysses Grant as a general. He led the Union Army to many great victories. -
Sherman Captures Atlanta

Abraham Lincoln re-elected
He carried all but 3 states with 33% of the popular vote and 212 of 233 electoral votes. He was the first president to get re-elected in about 30 years. -
Sherman Begins March to the Sea
Sherman was able to attack the heart of the Confederacy. -
Savannah, Georgia Falls to the Union
This happened at the last stop of Sherman's march. It was approved by Abraham Lincoln. Savannah was one of the major cities of the south. -
13th Ammendment Passed
This ammendment stated that slavery was abolished from America. -
Union Army moves in and occupies Richmond, VA.
The Union Army wanted to take over Richmond which was the Confederate capital. -
Robert E. Lee Surrenders
His surrender ended the Civil War. He surrendered his 28,000 troops to Ulysses S. Grant. Lee was harrassed by the Union calvary, forced to abandon Richman and was blocked from joining the surviving Confederate forces; thats why he surrendered. -
Lincoln's Assassination
He was the first American president to be assassinated. A person from the confederate side killed him to help the confederate side.
